The International Composition Contest by ART Ensemble NRW at Klangraum 61
The ART Ensemble NRW announces an International Composition Contest to celebrate
“Klangräume Düsseldorf 2022”. Contestants are expected to submit a composition to be integrated into the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by Johann Sebastian Bach as the second movement. The composition for the competition should not be written in the style of Bach's compositions, but rather be a present-day and contemporary one. Its duration should not exceed 5 minutes and it should fit a reasonable tempo of the other two movements of Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. The composition could be new or already have been performed, but it must not have been composed prior to 2010. The compositions that have already been awarded at another contest are not eligible for the contest. The compositions are to be submitted anonymously. There are no age, gender, or nationality restrictions. Procedure: Upon preliminary decision of the jury, a maximum of 5 compositions will be selected to be performed by the ART Ensemble NRW at a finalists' concert, and then to be voted on by all participating musicians, the jury, and the audience. The winner will be selected among five finalists’ compositions. Instruments: The instruments selected correspond to that of the Bach’s composition—3 violins, 3 violas, 3 violoncellos, contrabass, and harpsichord. Some or all of these instruments should be used.
Prize money:
The prize money in the amount of €500 will be awarded to each of the selected finalists. The selected first-place winner will additionally be awarded with €2,000.
Deadlines:
The compositions should be submitted anonymously until September 30, 2022, in PDF form via art@artensemble.de or mailed to Klangraum 61at the following address: 61 Mettmanner Str., 40233 Dusseldorf, Germany. Each composition should be assigned a password. A separate e- mail or another envelope containing only the password should be enclosed with the name, address and a short vita of the composer in German or English. The finalists' concert will be held on December 3, 2022, in Düsseldorf. For more information, please visit: www.klangraum61.de
